Artist's Statement
This piece always reminds me of a woman I met many years ago. I've never met a person, before or since, who kept herself so barely in check.

She and her husband were the only people I knew in Kansas before I moved here, but soon after arriving, I discovered that she had murdered him in cold blood a couple of months before. From what I later read in the papers, he was planning to leave her, but she decided that if she couldn't have him, then nobody could. She shot him while he was asleep. Afterwards, she took an overdose of sleeping pills and lay down beside him to die. She was discovered before that could happen and she was later convicted of murdering him.
